When Health Insurance Doesn’t Pay for Enough

health-insuranceOne of the things that I have learned from being self-employed is how to deal with health insurance. I’ve had to purchase my own health insurance rather than going through my employer. This means that I’ve learned how to compare plans. Even with the best of plans, though, some health care procedures and medications are too expensive for me given the financial restraints I sometimes deal with as a self-employed worker.

I’ve found two things that I can do to get the medical care that I need when my health insurance doesn’t cover enough of the cost. The main thing is to find an affordable alternative to the regular care. For example, if I was having problems related to aging then I might choose the affordable option of ordering HGH instead of whatever my doctor was recommending. If I was experiencing back pain then I’d work on stretching and massage rather than invasive (expensive) back surgery.

The other thing I’ve learned is that you can negotiate the cost of your health care with your doctor. The price that they charge isn’t always the lowest price that they’ll take. If you’re paying cash without going through your health insurance company then it’s possible to bargain the price down with many doctors.
