Variety of Insurances is Confusing But Helpful

It’s amazing how many different types of insurances there are!  It’s almost overwhelming, and confusing, too, considering that some people even consider insurance pretty unnecessary.  In this day and age, it absolutely is necessary, and I like that different products are beginning to be tailored to individuals much the way life insurance is.

Those Progressive Insurance commercials are a great example:  they feature a woman who is able to “dial” in more or less deductible, more or less coverage, etc.  Another great example of that is disability insurance.  You can get disability insurance tailored to the type of profession you have, such as physician disability insurance, or dentist disability insurance.  You can tailor the plan to short-term or long term disability insurance.  And you can get a different type of insurance to cover liability depending on your profession.

There’s even long-term care insurance to cover you if and when you need to go into a retirement home.

It’s hard to imagine how all of these companies remain lucrative considering how many claims there must be, but hey, given the cost of liability in the event something happens, or the cost of lost wages in the event of lost work, it looks like all of these insurances make as much sense as homeowners’ and medical insurance.
