It’s back to school time. And that means it’s time for back to school shopping. Normally this would be an inconvenience at the worst. But this year is different. My hours at work have been cut in half over the last few months because business has been horrible. And when the hours get cut, the paychecks are not as big. I’m already struggling to make ends meet. The last thing I needed right now was a list of school supplies for the little ones.

Unfortunately this is one of those situations where you can’t just bury you head in the sand. It was time for action. I needed cash. I mentioned this to one of my coworkers and she said that she had recently had gotten cash for gold jewelry that she never wore anymore.

So I went home and raided the jewelry box. There are a couple of pieces that I wear pretty often, and they were right there on top. But stashed under that level was a bunch of old jewelry that had not been worn in years. I picked out my least favorite pieces and took them in to sell the scrap gold. Not only was I able to get enough cash to cover the school supplies, but I even picked up a few new outfits and new shoes for the kids.
